Questions
Frequently asked questions
A few of the questions people often have before getting in touch. If there is something else you would like to ask, you are always welcome to contact me.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and to explore what has brought you to therapy.
There is nothing you need to prepare, and no expectation that you will know exactly what to say. It is very common to feel some nervousness before a first session, and this is completely understandable.
Do I need a specific problem to come to therapy?
No. Some people begin therapy with a clear issue, while others come with a quieter sense that something does not feel quite right.
For some, therapy can be about ongoing emotional maintenance and self-reflection — a bit like a gym membership for your mind.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number of sessions; this depends on your individual needs and what you would like from therapy.
Some people come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy. We can review this together as therapy progresses.
Is therapy confidential?
Everything discussed in therapy is kept confidential within professional and ethical guidelines.
There are rare exceptions where there may be concerns about serious harm to yourself or somebody else, but this would always be discussed with you wherever possible.
What is integrative therapy?
Integrative therapy means I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on your individual needs, experiences and personality.
I believe therapy should feel collaborative and tailored to you rather than rigid or one-size-fits-all.
Are sessions online or in person?
I offer both online and in-person sessions in Chorley. Online therapy takes place via secure video call and allows you to access support from the comfort of your own space.
What if I feel nervous about starting therapy?
Feeling nervous about therapy is incredibly common, especially if you are used to coping alone or have never spoken openly about your experiences before.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. Therapy is a space where we can gently explore things together at your own pace.
Ready when you are
I offer a free initial telephone consultation to explore what brings you to therapy and whether we feel like the right fit. Sessions are available in person in Chorley, Lancashire or online.
